Three Ways to Fake a Discord Message
People make these for a joke, a video or a story, and there are three ways to get the screenshot. They differ in what the result shows and in who can see it.
Inspect Element in a browser
Open Discord in a web browser, right-click a message, choose Inspect and rewrite the text in the page code, then take a screenshot. The change exists only on your screen: nobody else sees it, and reloading brings the real message back. The desktop app has these developer tools switched off by default, phones have none, and the screenshot shows your real account, down to your username and server list.
Editing a real screenshot
Paint over the text of a real screenshot in an image editor and type new words on top. Matching Discord's typeface, size and spacing by hand is slow, and the patch shows once someone zooms in. You also start from a conversation that really happened, with real names in it.
A fake Discord message generator

However it is made, a fake message is a picture. Discord never shows it to anyone; it exists only where you post it.

The layout was measured from real iPhone captures of Discord taken in August and September 2026, light and dark. The message rows are the ones the desktop app shows too — avatar, name, time, text — so a crop of the thread reads as Discord either way. What is not drawn is left out rather than guessed.
What People Make With It
Most of what gets made here is a joke: the reply someone wishes they had sent, a server in-joke rewritten as a DM, a bit for a TikTok or a YouTube video where a chat has to appear on screen for four seconds and read at a glance. After that come story creators, who need a conversation their characters could plausibly have had, and designers and community managers, who need a Discord screenshot in a deck or a moderation guide without pasting a real member into it.
